Anna has designed this course specifically for Love Food Hate Waste Champions, based on her own research and experience over the past ten years. By the end of this course, you’ll be confident about helping others reduce their food waste in your local community.

Do you worry about how much food you see other people throwing away each week? Does it hurt that, while all this food is being thrown away, one in nine people across the world go to bed hungry? Are you concerned about what the future holds for your children and grandchildren? You want to be part of the solution not part of the problem so this course is for you.
My name is Anna Pitt and I’ve written two books about waste reduction, one of which, Leftover Pie, was all about reducing food waste. I’ve been writing and speaking about waste reduction in schools, businesses, community groups or just outside Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s on a cold winter day in the run up to Christmas! And I love doing it.
But it isn’t really about the fact that I love it! Maybe that helps me to be good at it, but really it is about a massive global problem that scientists are telling us we only have a decade to fix before the consequences become dire.
I’ve probably helped a few thousand people to reduce their food waste. The problem is there are a few billion of us contributing to the enormous mountain of food waste that is being thrown away – often in the wrong way – all round the world. So, we need an army of people like me going out there, helping other people to reduce their food waste. And that’s where you come in.
There is a global goal that has been agreed to, that says we need to halve food waste by 2030. That’s just 10 years away.
We are not going to be able to halve people’s food waste overnight. There’s no miracle cure. But there are so many ways that little by little we can chip away at the problem and help people on a path to radical food waste reduction in ways that are so easy it will feel like a walk in the park on a sunny day, when in fact, they can look behind them and realise they’ve managed an uphill struggle without even noticing. That’s what we are aiming for, and that’s what I’m going to show you how to do.

The course is broken down into 16 short audio files. The idea is you can listen to the course while you are doing something else, so that you can make the most of your valuable time. It always seems to be busy people who come forward to do important stuff like this. So I wanted to make something that is flexible enough to fit around people’s busy lives.
You can listen while you’re walking the dog, or doing the ironing, or cooking or cleaning – though it doesn’t work that well with hoovering – or whizzing up your frugal green soup! You can take me out for a walk or listen while you’re on a run. Yes these are all the times I am listening to podcasts and learning from them. I hope you’ll find something that works for you.
With each session, I’ve written a few recap notes, or asked you to think about something in particular. That’s when you might need to pause what you are doing or return to the session later. But, I hope I’ve made this easy and manageable for as many people as possible with different demand on their lives. You are of course welcome to binge the whole course in one go. It will take around two and a half hours and you’ll be ready to go off and do you first event.
