One tiny tip that will save you wasting food

blackcurrant smoothieHands up who loves a smoothie?

Yay – me too!

They’re a great way to use up fruit that might be careering towards the compost heap and a fantastic start to the day – perfect if you’re someone who can’t stomach (boom!) a large breakfast.

They’re brilliant when the kids get in from school to give them something healthy and filling without ruining their appetite for dinner (unless you have a child like mine that can go to a friend’s house for dinner then come home and eat another three course meal).

Stop wasting food!

But the trouble with smoothies is guessing just the right amount of ingredients for your cup or glass.

I frequently, to my shame, would pour a bit of the leftover down the sink – I’d make a smoothie to someone’s taste and it would be too much.

So I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of this tip earlier.

It’s one of those ‘no-brainer’ tips that I’m sure most of you are doing anyway, but for those of you who aren’t – here’s my fail safe way to never waste smoothie ingredients again.

All you do is measure everything in the cup – duh!

Simple, right?

In this example I chopped up a banana and put it in a mug

Added a handful of blackberries and put them in the mug

Then topped up with milk – all BEFORE blending

Et Voila! The perfect smoothie amount for one mug.
