zero waste week logoHi and welcome to our new site.

For the previous five years, we’ve run zero waste week over on the My Zero Waste website.

This year, however, we’ve given zero waste week a home of its own with this brand new site which we hope you like!

The theme for this year’s zero waste week is “Use it up!” and we’ll be off to the kitchen to tackle food waste.

Although many people have kerbside collections for food, it’s still eight times better for the environment to REDUCE food waste, rather than get it recycled.

Not only that, but it’s better for your bank balance too.

Stop and imagine for a moment taking £50 of your hard earned money and throwing it in the bin each month?

Crazy, right? NOBODY would do that!

But according to WRAP, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

All of us.

Apparently, the average household throws away £50 of food every month. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather that money was spent on something I need rather than thrown in the bin!

So this year, from September 2nd-8th, we’ll all be working together to reduce food waste, share hints, tips and recipes and inspire others to take action.

Leave a comment below and tell me what your biggest challenge surrounding food waste is. I’d love to hear!

Worst things for me are when friends call round and suggest we go to the pub to eat. I can’t resist being waited on and end up with food waste in the fridge! I try and use up what I can by taking it in packed lunches to work, but then the lure of the office restaurant calls me and I end up wasted even MORE food. I’m definitely signing up because I have a LOT of room for improvement.
    Thanks for the inspiration!
