There’s just two weeks before the twelfth Zero Waste Week campaign begins.
It’s time to get prepared!
And that means, we’re going into your bin!
Without knowing what you’re starting with, you can’t measure your progress throughout Zero Waste Week.
Let me ask you something – imagine you had made a new year’s resolution to lose weight. What’s the first thing you’d be asked to do once you attend your weight loss class?
Yep. they’d ask you to stand on the scales.
Why? Because you need to know where you are at, so you can set a goal and make a plan. In other words, you need to know what you’re dealing with, how bad (or not so bad) things are and what the reality is.
The truth is, reducing your waist is no different to reducing your waste – Zero Waste Week is a bootcamp for your bin!
If you don’t know what you’re throwing away, how can you reduce it?
For this week then, I want you to live a normal life and jot down every piece of ‘rubbish’ you put in the bin or discard when out and about.
You might be surprised to see what’s being thrown away. I kept a sheet for a day and ended up with a cat food pouch, food packaging and other items I’d not really thought about before.
For each item ask yourself WHY you’re throwing something away, note where it’s going and start to think how you could improve this during Zero Waster Week. I’m confident you’ll find it insightful to see that some things are borne out of habit and how just a quick tweak can make a difference. Or you might be surprised at how much of something you’re using each week.
